Van Gogh Popup & Gift Shop in New Jersey

From the 1st of December the unique Short Hills Mall, New Jersey, is the new host of the Van Gogh Museum Pop-up & gift shop.

This second POP UP by the Van Gogh  Museum in the USA is placed within a commercial store environment. It seems clear that consumers want more than just another merchandise display in a store to lure them away form the online sales opportunity.

Place a real exiting cultural event in the heart of a commercial Retail environment and see the consumers gravitate to that situation !

Open from 1 st Dcember 2018 to 31th January 2019

Van Gogh Museum on Tour in the US

blog---vincent-950x650-

Starting this summer, the Van Gogh Museum on Tour is a unique cooperation between Van Gogh Museum and Retail is Detail.

The Van Gogh Museum makes the life and work of Vincent van Gogh and the art of his time accessible and reaches as many people as possible in order to enrich and inspire them. Their main objective is the management and conservation of the collection and making it accessible to as many people as possible, both physically in the museum and digitally, and both for Dutch and international visitors. Unadfortunately, the works of Van Gogh can’t travel because of the preservation of the works, and not every person interested in the Van Gogh collection is able to travel to Amsterdam.
Therefore the Van Gogh Museum has created the Museum Editions, high quality reproductions of a number of Van Goghs masterpieces, which will be on display and can be bought in a Culture Pop Up traveling through the US, created by Retail is Detail.

Retail is Detail has succeeded to come to an agreement on behalf of the Van Gogh Museum with two leading USA Mall corporations namely Simon Property Group and Taubman. The seven planned Museum POP Ups are scheduled for some of the leading US malls in their portfolio’s.
The Museum Tour will start in the prestigious King of Prussia Mall, Philadelphia on the 16th August and will continue thereafter to the unique Short Hills Mall, New Jersey, where the presentation will open on the 1 st Of December 2018.

The Cultural Pop Up should generate footfall, publicity, PR and conversion at the shopping malls its located.

Copy its successfull Mall of Scandinavia to the Netherlands

A significant investment of € 450 million in the Dutch retail business! Unibail-Rodamco wants to copy its successfull Mall of Scandinavia, Stockholm/Sweden, to the Netherlands.

In 2019 the Mall of the Netherlands will be opened with shiny marble floors, eight meter high glass fronts, twenty restaurants, a fresh market as the Markthal in Rotterdam and a movie theater with ten theaters. It wil get a “four star service level”: thousands of free parking spots, free wifi and customers will be able to (cold) store their shopping bags and groceries. Via the mall’ app the customers will receive tailormade offers. Shopping must be a live experience. In short: positive news in retail business, see NRC news article.

The old way of Flash Retail Thinking is purely Reactive

Pop-Up Retail Stores or otherwise known as Flash Retail have been with us for some 14 years now and came about as a simple marketing tool for big Brands to introduce mainly new products and designs. Lead by their Marketing and Brand Agencies it has become a purely promotional, marketing instrument just as any other advertisement campaign or event base related promotion. As a result Retail Landlords and Mall Owners with an increasing number of empty storefronts caught on to this idea and are slowly becoming more receptive to offers from brands and retailers wanting to lease a commercial space for a short time…

The Future of Retail & Malls

Looking ahead 25 years, the majority of the country’s spending power will rest in the hands of millennials.

“Retail has to evolve on a regular basis or it faces extinction. It’s just the way it is,” said Dan Hurwitz, CEO of open-air shopping center owner DDR. “While the challenges may be different, the need to evolve … is just as important today as it’s ever been, if not more so.”

Fun, Food & Fashion

PRICE, PRODUCT & PLACE AREN’T GOOD ENOUGH

The consumer is looking for an experience based offering with a strong social underpin. Malls in particular need the 3 F’s (Fun, food & fashion) in order to create more social interaction and above all more incentive for consumers to return.

Take food for example which shouldn’t merely be seen as fast food but rather as a balanced selection of offerings that appeal to more than just filling your belly.
